Zack's Busy Making Another Porno and more

by Tom on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 @ 02:55 PM

After the success that was "Zack and Miri Make a Porno", Seth Rogen is now developing a show about three friends in their twenties that run a porn store. According to E! Online this isn't going to focus on the raunchy laughs that Zack and Miri aspired for, but instead it will aim toward showing life lessons that the friends learn. Mr. Rogen is writing it with his writing partner from "Superbad" and "Pineapple Express", Evan Goldberg.

And...another Nutty Professor sequel is in the works for Universal and Imagine Entertainment. A call is out to writers for their ideas about where Sherman's story should go in the third Nutty Professor film. The first remake of "The Nutty Professor" made $270 million dollars in 1996. The sequel to that remake, "The Klumps" made $162 million in 2000. Eddie Murphy isn't attached yet. His attachment hinges on the writer, director and what the Hollywood Reporter calls "other elements". My guess is that they mean money.

One Big Happy Prehistoric Family

by Tom on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 @ 12:21 PM

On Monday November 18th, researchers revealed that they have evidence that prehistoric tribes saw importance in their families. This is hypothesized because they found a grave that included two adults and their children. The people buried in the grave were facing each other. The scientists used DNA analysis to figure out that they were members of a family. This burial was an unusual practice in Neolitic culture.

Scientist Wolfgang Hack said in a statement: "By establishing the genetic links between the two adults and two children buried together in one grave, we have established the presence of the classic nuclear family in a prehistoric context in Central Europe. To our knowledge the oldest authentic molecular genetic evidence so far.Their unity in death suggests a struggle in life." Many of the corpses found suffered grievous injuries.

The findings from the gravesite that held 13 people, will be featured in the journal "Procedings of the National Academy of Sciences". For more on the discovery, click here.

Star Trek Trailer ...for now!

by Tom on Monday, November 17, 2008 @ 09:47 PM

I finally managed to find a great copy of the new Star Trek trailer. Apparently, this was attached to “Quantum of Solace” this weekend. The movie will be officially released on May 8th. It boasts some rather big name stars and one familiar to the series: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Eric Bana, Simon Pegg, Winona Ryder, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Ben Cross, Anton Yelchin, Greg Ellis, Chris Hemsworth and Spock. Whoops…Leonard Nimoy.

Sorry to all of our participants who have been eagerly awaiting the results for our pumpkin carving contest, I finally got my act together and got this contest judged. I got pumpkin specialist, and one half of Pittsburgh rap group Grand Buffet, Jackson to be the judge of our contest in order to have non-biased results. Drumroll please….

Congratulations to Scott Miller for carving a masterful pumpkin. I hope you have a big closet for all the junk you will be receiving from us.

Again, thanks to everyone else who participated in the contest, we really enjoyed getting to see all of the great stuff you guys came up with. Keep your eyes peeled for more great contests in Horse Eats Town’s future.

Living Dinosaurs: Coming Soon?

by Rodney on Friday, November 14, 2008 @ 12:44 AM

On the day Michael Crichton died, a team of Japanese scientists managed to successfully clone a mouse from the genetic material of a dead one. In theory, this makes it possible to clone organisms from non-living genetic material. In other words, bringing the future described in Crichton’s infamous Jurassic Park to reality. While a couple resurrected frozen mastodons and other freeze-dried extinct animals may be the first of scientists’ tests of God’s will power, living dinosaurs can not be far behind.

Many web-sites reporting this article ask the question: But should we? Unless they are asking an intentionally rhetorical question, may answer is: Of course we should. Let’s do it now. Apparently, there’s a lot to be considered when undermining nature and extinction. Well, I saw that scene in Jurassic Park too where the all female Brontosaurus population was laying eggs and no one knew how and Ian Malcom was all like: “Told you!”. But, 1993 was a different world Jeff Goldblum, and frankly I don’t care what nature thinks I want me some dinosaurs!

In related news, the potential for a world in which living dinosaurs becomes a reality marks another prayer from my childhood that God has answered (in due time of course). Other top answered prayers including, but not limited too: my Playstation and Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Pretzel-Crackers, and Scarlett Johansen covers Tom Waits. Admittedly, the last one was more of a surprise than anything else. But still a divine one.

Watchmen Trailer #2 and More Movie News

by Tom on Friday, November 14, 2008 @ 12:02 AM

If you're a movie or graphic novel fan, chances are high that you know that Zach Snyder, director of "300" has undergone the biggest task of his life...or that of any comic book/graphic novel movie adapter: bringing the most beloved graphic novel EVER to the big screen: "Watchmen". I'm not kidding when I say it's the most beloved graphic novel ever. It was voted one of Time Magazine's 100 Best Novels not "Best Graphic Novels". The characters are extremely involved. If you think "The Dark Knight" was dark, get ready for a ride.

From Brett Ratner and Aintitcoolnews : Rejoice! He may not be directing "Conan" after all! "Let me make this very clear, I am not doing 'Conan' now. This is totally premature. For now, "Conan" is only a development deal. I have a deal at Paramount and I'm doing "Beverly Hills Cop" first, no matter what. Avi shouldn't be telling you or anyone else in the press what I'm doing."
Thank you Mr. Ratner... go ahead and do whatever you want to to "Beverly Hills Cop"...but don't change the theme song that's kind of iconic.

Before these big superhero dramas, space dramas like "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" and long drawn out epics there was literature and poems about brave knights...yes, a lot of people read or had tales recited to them! Now, one of the most beloved poems of the medieval ages is going to be brought to the big screen starring Jim Caviezel (possibly) in the title role. "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" a tale with a moral! Terrance Malick is planning on directing it. For more on the story click here. I'm sure you can find the whole poem and sparknotes online to help you understand fully. They do a hack job of explaining Gawain in this article but it gives the gist of things.
